Missions and Outreach

The people of Wesley United Methodist Church are involved in a wide variety of activities to help and benefit, our neighborhood, our community and our world. Among the many things we’re involved in, our signature projects are:

In addition to these seven, there are lots of other areas where the Wesley family gets involved. Below is a short description of some of them.

Christmas Stockings – Christmas gifts for needy Fairfax County children.

Fixing by Faith – Fixing a home for someone in need in our neighborhood.

Congregational Care ­ – This group reaches out to those in need, particularly after the loss of a loved one. If interested, please contact Charlotte Webster.

Crop Walk ­ – Walks each October to support those who hunger.

Cub Scouts Pack 152 ­ – Meets on the third Wednesday of each month, September ­ – May in the Fellowship Hall. If interested, contact Tom Conry.

Girl Scout Cadettes­ – Meets every other Friday at 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information, contact the church office at 703/938-8700.

Kits for Conference ­ – Each year Conference Mission Kits are prepared for the less fortunate in other countries. Health kits, school kits, and baby kits are prepared. If you are interested in helping, contact Mary Williams.

Missionaries/VIM ­ – More than 2000 United Methodist Missionaries are serving in 70 countries, including Anne Kolbe in Cambodia. VIM (Volunteers in Mission) are involved in overseas ministries, such as the Russian Initiative or medical teams to Honduras. If interested, call Joyce Warner.

Music – There are numerous choir opportunities, children’s choir, youth choir, adult choir, and Wesley chimes.

NGO (Never Grow Old) ­ – A meeting of seniors once a month to attend fun events. If interested, please contact Flo Snodgrass.

Operation Teddy Bear ­ – Annual campaign to collect teddy bears and other stuffed animals for orphanages in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. Please contact Mary Lou Krouse.

Prayer Ministry ­ – We are in the process of setting up neighborhood prayer groups. If interested in helping or participating, call Jeannette Miller.

Shepherd’s Center of Oakton/Vienna ­ – Meets monthly provides services to those in need. Contact Julius Hankin.

Sunday School/Vacation Bible School – Our Sunday School classes (K-5) are involved in a wonderful rotational teaching system where the lesson is taught from 4-5 different perspectives. If you want to teach or assist, call Michal Zuehlke at 703/938-8700.

UMW – The United Methodist Women meet in their various circles each month during the Fall and Spring. They are actively involved in mission activities, such as Mitten Tree, Seed Packets,Labels, eyeglasses, postage stamps, Kits for Conference. If interested, contact Janet Keener.

Wednesday Night Community Suppers ­ – Suppers are held on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. ­ 7:00 pm during the Fall and Spring, normally from mid- September to mid- November and mid- January to mid- April. The meals cost $1 for adults and are free for children. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jane Brill or Michal Zuehlke at 703/938-8700.

Wesley Stitchers ­ – Meets monthly. The Stitchers have made and donated more than 500 blankets. If interested, please contact Becky McKeown.

Youth – The Wesley Youth meet each Sunday at 5pm. The youth are active in missions and fellowship. If you are interested in participating in our youth ministry, please contact our Youth Directors at youthministry@wesleyvienna.com.
