Programs: Education

Bright shiny faces eager to learn God's word

Many dedicated members contribute to the success of our education program; however, we need more folks willing to be a part of sharing God's word with others. Please note that Wesley's Child Protection Policy requires all persons working with children and youth to have been attending Wesley for 6 months, to complete informational forms, and to complete church policy training.

Education Commission Member
The Education Commission is responsible for the formal Christian teaching in the church. Sunday School classes, United Methodist Youth Fellowship, Vacation Bible School, and other teaching activities are planned and managed by this commission. Time includes one meeting a month plus any needed outside activity time.

Library Commission
The Library Commission manages the church's media resources. Volunteers catalog books, cassettes, videos, equipment, and shelve the returned books. Time varies.

 Sunday School
Superintendent – The superintendent manages the Sunday School. This usually takes two hours a week and a commitment to serve for a school quarter or the year. Happy kids learning about Jesus

Sunday School Teachers, Assistants, and Substitutes. – Volunteers teach, assist, or substitute in our youth Sunday School program. Needs vary from three hours a week for the lead teacher, to two hours for an assistant teacher.

Nursery Care – Work with infants or toddlers during Sunday School, worship services, and special events. Time varies depending on activity.

Vacation Bible School – Vacation Bible School is held in July or August. Assist in planning, coordinating, teaching, music, playground, crafts, refreshments, and publicity. Time varies by activity.

Vacation Bible School Children's Special Events
Throughout the year, there are special children's events. One example is the Children's Easter Festival where children experience, through activities, the meaning and symbols of Lent and Easter. Other examples are a Halloween party (with various activities, refreshments, and a Piņata) and an Advent Workshop. Through creative activities, children explore the meaning of the birth of Christ. Persons who have completed the Child Protection Policy training help with these events. Time required is determined by the event.

Lead Workshops and Seminars
Short-term courses are offered on various topics, e.g. topics relating to the Bible, personal growth, financial matters, child development, parenting, and life changing situations. Volunteers with special interests and backgrounds lead these sessions. Time varies by event.
