Programs: Evangelism
All of us who consider ourselves people of God are in some way, evangelists—those
who proclaim the Gospel. Bring God's message of loving care to others by participating
in one of the ministries below.
Evangelism Commission Member
The Evangelism Commission focuses on two areas. The first is to develop and
oversee ministries that help provide a caring and nurturing environment for
our members and visitors. The second purpose is to provide ministries that
allow us to reach out to the community in our witness to God's love. Time required
is one and a half to two hours each month plus activity time.
New Member Sponsors
Sponsors mentor new members to help assimilate them into the life of the church,
to finds ways for them to share their interests and talents, to stand up with
them when they join the church, to introduce them to others in the congregation,
and to encourage them to participate in church activities. Time varies depending
on activities.
Neighborhood Visitation
At special times of the year, visit members and friends of the church. Time
varies by activity and opportunities.
Plant Ministry Stewards
Visitors who attend church services on Sunday are visited with a plant and
a note. The purpose of the ministry is to let visitors know that we care. One
to two hours a week.
Prayer Friends Ministry The purpose of this ministry is to be caring
and supportive with our church family through the power of prayer. As a Prayer
Friend, you will choose five Wesley families that you keep in touch with and
pray for. Time varies.
Tape Ministry Participate in the Tape Ministry by producing the tape
recording of a Sunday service about once each month. Copies of the tape can
be used by members for listening at home or taken to a shut-in. Two to three
hours every few weeks.
Telephone Committee Telephone regular attendees of the church who have
been absent for a while to say "We miss you" or "How are you?" Time varies.
Walking Ministry Drop off specially made flyers to homes in the local
community. The fliers contain information about Wesley and its ministries.
Time varies - can be as little as one hour a month.
Wesley Babies - Visit New Parents A lay person from the church visits
the new mother and baby in the hospital with a tote bag care package. A stork-shaped
sign is placed on the church lawn with the motto "A Wesley UMC Baby." The volunteer
arranges for three or four meals to be delivered to the family's home by Wesley
members. Time varies depending on duties.
