Programs: Missions
Jesus commanded us to "Love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12) God
gives us His love unconditionally. Share that love with folks in our community
and the world by joining Wesley's Missions ministry. For more information check
our calendar or Wesley
News.
Missions
Commission Member
The Missions Commission is the church body which coordinates and initiates
and promotes mission and outreach programs and recommends to the Administrative
Council the disposition of special offerings. One meeting a month plus outside
time to complete commission tasks. Click here to
visit the web site dedicated to the Jubilee Project, a mission Wesley supports.
Special Projects Assistance & Activities
Coordinates and promotes special project needs from time to time. Time varies
by project and activity selected.
Food
For Others
Food for Others is a non-profit organization that distributes food to needy
people on a daily basis in Fairfax and Arlington Counties. Sandwiches are made
at Wesley Church the last Sunday of the month. On the fourth Monday of the
month, Wesley members distribute food. Time required is three hours once a
month.
Blood Donation
Wesley's membership in the Blood Bank makes blood available for Wesley members.
Individual blood donations may be credited to Wesley's account.
Emergency Appeals
Donations of funds, food and clothing are often made on short notice. Workers
assemble and pack items in response to a variety of distribution networks.
Time varies but is a short-term commitment for these projects.
English
As A Second Language Classes (ESL)
Teach, assist in teaching, provide childcare, or assist with other needs for
ESL classes. Classes are held on Monday and Thursday evenings in the Fall and
Spring for nine weeks. About three hours once a week.
Committee for Helping Others (CHO)
CHO is the local churches' community emergency organization. It has a variety
of ministries, including a food closet, providing transportation (for one individual,
once a Quarter, to one medical appointment), distributing donated furniture
and clothing (one Wednesday morning in September for four hours), and providing
other types of assistance. Short-term time commitments on a per-project basis
plus a special food effort every December.
Meals on Wheels
Members of the congregation volunteer to deliver meals to the elderly on a
regular basis. The number of volunteers available determines the frequency
of involvement and the time commitment required.
Various Yearly Projects
Volunteers plan, organize, and recruit others for various one-time mission
projects, some of which are listed below.
SERRV: volunteers make day trips to New Windsor, Maryland to work at
SERRV, a nonprofit organization that processes hand-crafted items from underdeveloped
countries.
Society of St. Andrew Potato Project: volunteers participate in gleaning
a variety of crops from June through September.
Crop Walk: benefitting the hungry, Wesley Church members join the community
in this annual walk, or solicit pledges for financial support for the walkers.
Angel Program: families are "adopted" for Christmas, with emphasis on
gifts for children.
OAR: mentor and teach jail inmates.
Christmas in April: Participate in an area-wide program on the last
Saturday in April by painting and repairing housing for those of special needs.
Time varies, depending upon the project.

activities on an as-needed basis. Time varies.
